“Down! Quick!” Eliot said, hustling Trish behind the nearest vehicle. Both crouched down and watched carefully as the vehicle approached.

“Stay down, no matter what happens,” Eliot said as the vehicle began to slow when it approached the car the two were hiding behind. Eliot was shedding the packs, and opened one. He withdrew a compact pistol and checked it, holding it ready.

Trish was doing likewise. She had her gun ready when the vehicle stopped and shouts came.

“Might as well come out of there,” came a loud voice. “We know you’re there! Make it easy on yourselves.”
